If that was a non limoed fleetwood that would probably look pretty sharp as a drop top. This, however, does not.

Part cruiser, part free candy dispensary.
That is a win-win.

Who doesn't need an old Chevy van. The end.

I like it, but they should have used a model with a hinged side door, so you could still open the door. Now you can't, so which is stupid. Also, CP for $6k.

The Fleetwood is about 15 minutes from where I work...I think I can resist the urge.
I'm a little confused though on his remark about starting the car with carb cleaner since the fuel pump is bad.
— Step One: Spray carb cleaner in intake
— Step Two: Start car, and electric fuel pump *doesn't* kick in
— Now what? Wouldn't the car die rather quickly?
![]() 04/10/2015 at 15:03 |
|
Yes, that would make sense but as with the rest of the car, nothing makes sense

The bed seems fairly well done so why the hell punt on the door handle? Like it was said below, shoulda used one with side barn doors...

I can imagine Dexter doing the commercials. "As a serial killer on the go it's so frustrating to me to have to choose between a lair for imprisoning live victims and a workshop for dismembering their corpses...with my new Vanamino I can have both!"

A somewhat popular thing. I saw this a couple years ago in Lake Geneva.

Now that's a proper one
![]() 04/11/2015 at 13:24 |

If that works (the spray-start), then what it implicates is the circuitry from the battery to the fuel pump, because obviously when the alternator's energized the fuel pump is running fine.
This is assuming there's a separate 'start' and 'run' path for the fuel pump, which seeing this is a GM vehicle that may not be *all* of them...

That's awesome. I like how they describe a 2.0L engine as a big engine.

I saw something very close to this, once:
The one I saw was smaller (a converted "short-bus") and painted in some company's paint-scheme. If I remember correctly, it even had a small crane/hoist in the truck-bed.

That's a great idea. A lot of them run the bulletproof 7.3L Ford International Diesel and can be found cheap at auctions.

I'm a mechanic at a school bus company. We did this exact "conversion" to an old wheelchair bus in order to have a truck to carry our yard salt spreader. Unfortunately, the unit hung over the rear axle quite a distance. When loaded, the front wheels almost left the pavement, making driving a dicey experience at best.
We scrapped that abomination this past fall after about four years' use. Thank God it's gone.

A Cormad or a Novette could also be useful. From a movie too. It was up for auction in Monterey in 2013.

Not quite as useful or tastefully done, but I also submit the Escalade convertible. It was also up for auction in 2013.

That's a 100% American Chevy Monte Carlo with a wagon back Photoshopped on (I don't think they ever made them from the factory). There were other similar two door wagons like the Nomad. Here's a great article about the history of the design and lots of examples:

hmm tough call - it looks great on the outside but I bet there are captain's chairs in the back of that Chevy van, and captain's chair > bench seating.

No, I don't think is too bad, actually.

if it was a hinged door there would be no way to remove glass and serve candy/ice cream. lol
![]() 04/11/2015 at 15:16 |

I should have mentioned that it's a Photoshop.
Not sure where they pull the pic for the roof, I'm not great with ID'ing cars from that era.

But it looks pretty good. Not that I'm already breaking out the cutting torch, but I was curious where you lifted it.

2-door, longwindow, wagons seriously need to return!
Too bad it's a shop, I was hoping it would be a 2-door Holden Kingswood with windows, but looking them up again they didn't have these sexy lines anyway.

I have a completely unnatural and unexplainable fondness for these. There is one near me that was used by AT&T to haul spools of wire in its younger days.

Judging by the amount of 'Shop jobs and interest here, there is at least a small market for these kind of cars.

Theres a guy local who drag races all over and he has an old Ford short bus that he stretched the frame on. But he didn't stretch the body. All the frame stuck out the back, and he built a flat bed on it to tow his race car.

These were really common in the late 70's and early 80's for pulling 5th wheel travel trailers. The upgrade in trim specs for 1 ton dualies led to their demise.

E350 Wrecker . $5995, cheap enough to get a plusher interiour from something else.
Would trackday and post-race rates are reasonable.

This reminds me of some of those old Ford Econoline pickup conversions that Centurion did. They had a hinged back door that worked though.

The pump may not prime quickly enough to give it a start so that may be why it needs assistance. I would think that clicking the key on and off a couple of time would get enough fuel to start it but the proper thing would be to replace the fuel pump or relay

The license plate completes the package

If it didn't prime quickly enough to start, it wouldn't run the motor. I thought of that too and couldn't make it work in my head.

I can't remember the details but basically it leaked like a sieve and the mechanism jammed and rattled. Warranty nightmare and very low customer satisfaction.

Just think that those transporters are probably more rare than the 550 Spyder or maybe even the Formula V. I believe the top one has a 914 engine with something like 200hp to give it at least a little more juice. More info on the top one:
